The Taco CleanseThe Experiment. 2015
Prevent or reverse taco deficiency. Get that fresh taco-y feeling with over 75 seriously tasty vegan recipes. Tired of the same old cleanse? Instead of feeling rejuvenated are you feeling depleted, anxious, and cranky? (Not to mention . . . hungry?) A group of vegan taco scientists in Austin, Texas, know just how you feel, and now reveal their one-of-a-kind cleansing journey that anybody can follow and stick to—the Taco Cleanse. While the typical cleanse works by depriving you of your favorite foods, the plant-based Taco Cleanse rewards your body with what it naturally craves: tortillas, refried beans, guacamole! Begin with a breakfast taco, the most important taco of the day. Even if you do nothing else, your mood will brighten in just 24 hours. Keep eating tacos and within a week your outlook will be noticeably improved. After 30 days, cleansers report lasting benefits—and you will, too! The Taco Cleanse shows you: How to make everything from the tortilla—flour, corn, and waffle (!)—to the thirst-quenching “Supplements” (margaritas and other beverages) that best complement your tacos What to put in the tortilla— beer-battered portobellos, mac and cheese, even tater tots How to remake popular staples like picadillo, tacos al pastor, carne guisada, and fish tacos using plants instead of, well, animals. The Taco Cleanse is cheap, easy, and delicious. Its recipes are authentically Austin, and are sometimes even inspired by Mexico, where the taco was first created. Everything tastes better folded (exactly once) into a tortilla. Just eat one or more tacos at every meal, adding margaritas as necessary. It’s that simple.

Gender Violence and Human Rights: Seeking Justice in Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu
"‘The volume addresses the tensions between human and cultural, individual and collective rights, as played out in the domain of gender ... Gender is a perfect lens for exploring these tensions because cultural rights are often claimed in defence of gender oppression and because women often have imposed upon them the burden of representing cultural traditions in attire, comportment, restraint or putatively cultural conservatism. And Melanesia is a perfect place to consider these gendered issues because of the long history of ethnocentric representations of the region, because of the extent to which these are played out between states and local cultures and because of the efforts of the vibrant women’s movements in the region to develop locally workable responses to the problems of gender violence in these communities.’" --Christine Dureau, Senior Lecturer, Anthropology, University of Auckland.

Film Is Not DeadNew Riders. 2012
With the popularity of digital photography growing by leaps and bounds over the last decade, some say film has been dying a slow death ever since – or is already dead. The reality is that film has never gone away, and in recent years has experienced a surging, renewed popularity – sometimes simply for its retro, analog status, but mostly for film's ability to create a look and feel that many believe digital can still not achieve. If anyone can attest to this, it's Utah photographer Jonathan Canlas, who exclusively shoots with film, and has both an extremely successful wedding photography business as well as a series of popular workshops held numerous times per year around the world. In Film Is Not Dead: A Digital Photographer's Guide to Shooting Film, Canlas teams up with co-author Kristen Kalp to open the doors for anyone who wants to begin–or return to–shooting film. Casual, irreverent, fun, inspiring, and beautiful, this unique 10x8 hardcover book teaches the reader the basics of film, cameras, and shooting in this medium. Whether it's discussing the different tone and color characteristics of different films (Kodak, Fuji, etc.), how to load a medium-format camera back, how to create proper exposures, how and where to get film processed, or how Jonathan uses fun, plastic cameras like the Holga in his commercial and personal work, Film Is Not Dead appeals to anyone who is searching to finally begin creating that film look, but until now hasn't known where to start.
Essentially LillyWilliam Morrow. 2004
More than just the woman who created the fashion empire that bears her name, Lilly Pulitzer exemplifies an attitude, a casual sort of elegance, a style called "affluence at ease." Lilly and her clothing wholeheartedly embrace color -- she made famous the pink and green combination -- and her love of vibrant hues and bold prints led the New York Times to recently call her "a major force in prep resort wear for forty years." But Lilly Pulitzer Rousseau is also almost as well-known for her entertaining as she is for her fashions. A tribute to her insouciant lifestyle, Essentially Lilly is lavishly illustrated and peppered with anecdotal memories of a life filled with color. Joined by her family and close friends, Lilly recalls the parties, the decorating, the food, and the fashion that have been part of her life in Palm Beach since she arrived there in the 1950s. With sections devoted to each part of the day, Essentially Lilly captures a variety of social events -- from a sunrise sail to a beach supper under the stars -- and imbues each with singular "Lilly style": Mellow Yellow Mornings -- start the day off easy with a walk on the beach or a luxuriously lazy breakfast in bed. Take some friends out for an early morning sail or a country club brunch. Round off the morning hunting for a one-of-a-kind treasure at a local flea market. Think Pink Afternoons -- rev up the middle of the day with a bridesmaids' lunch, a birthday cookout, or a charity tea. Perhaps you'd rather relax with a fruity pool party or a "just-looking" stroll down Palm Beach's fabled Worth Avenue. True Blue Evenings -- gather your friends together for a festive cocktail party or a romantic beach dinner under a full moon. Maybe it's a deep woods campfire that appeals to you, or watching a movie out under the stars, or just a simple pizza party for your family. Essentially Lilly presents memories and menus, beautiful photographs and dazzling illustrations as well as dozens of recipes and entertaining suggestions to make your own get-togethers as successful as one of Lilly's famed parties. Best of all, Lilly offers her spirited advice throughout: "Just relax and have fun -- and be an individual," she says. "It's better that you enjoy yourself than it is to get it right." Good rules to live by. "LILLY PULITZER trademarks and logos are the property of Sugartown Worldwide, Inc. The book, including the design on the cover, are Copyright © 2004 Sugartown Worldwide, Inc."
Cholinergic Urticaria: A Guide to Chronic Heat HivesB. Page. 2014
At age 18, Ben’s life took a dramatic turn when he developed cholinergic urticaria--a hives disorder that reacts to heat. Over the next decade, he struggled to find ways to manage the condition, often trying various remedies in the process. Eventually, his hives became so severe that he couldn’t even do basic day-to-day tasks. Any activity he engaged in would often result in an unbearable stinging and itching sensation that engulfed his body. He often struggled with depression and withdrew from most activities. However, by the grace of God, he eventually overcame his hives disorder. Ben wrote this book to educate people about the disorder, to encourage and motivate current sufferers, and to share what’s helped him overcome his own hives. The book contains the following chapters: Chapter 1: My Cholinergic Urticaria Story Chapter 2: What is Cholinergic Urticaria, Exactly? Chapter 3: Cholinergic Urticaria Signs and Symptoms Chapter 4: Cholinergic Urticaria Causes/Triggers Chapter 5: Cholinergic Urticaria Treatments Chapter 6: Other Diseases in Relation to Cholinergic Urticaria Chapter 7: Cholinergic Urticaria and Exercise Chapter 8: Cholinergic Urticaria and Diet Chapter 9: How I Cured My Cholinergic Urticaria Chapter 10: Getting Motivated and Staying Positive Chapter 11: A Few Words for Loved Ones Chapter 12: Thirty Days and 18 Steps to Improve Cholinergic Urticaria Final Words About Cholinergic Urticaria: Cholinergic urticaria is a type of hives characterized by a hypersensitive response in the skin due to an increase in body temperature, especially if the increase is enough to illicit a sweat response. It’s often referred to as “chronic heat hives,” and it can cause tremendous discomfort for those suffering with it. Symptoms of this type of physical hives can include a stinging, itching, and “prickling” sensation when the individual becomes warm. Hives and wheals may also develop. Some people have only itching and prickling symptoms, whereas others may have only actual hives (or anything in-between). This type of hives can be triggered by physical activity (exercise, strong emotions, laughing, etc.), or passive heating (taking a hot shower, walking into a hot room, standing in the hot sun, etc.).
